House Of Sickos

Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to our houseguests of the week: Ms. Vomit, Mr. Diarrhoea and Dr. Fever!

Baby J has finally fallen ill for the 2nd time in his life. Was running a temperature over the weekend, threw up for 2 days, and has been having diarrhoea for almost a week now. Thought it was symptoms of teething or food allergy, but turns out to be a bug apparently going around recently. John Sr. is also down with the fever and cough.

With John Jr. throwing up everything he eats and drinks (even his bile) from top and bottom, we decided to shift his changing HQ to the living room to prevent disgusting messes on the rooms' carpet from diaper leaks or Merlion moments.

The premiere night of all this drama was the most spectacular. He started the night off by drenching his cot in puke. Moved him to a baby mattress in our room - drenched that too, then put him to sleep with us in our bed, but he got that too! Running out of dry surfaces to let him sleep on, we laid a large blanket on the floor, threw on his cushy baby quilt, and there he finally slept through the rest of the night.

Through this all, Baby J didn't seem to mind all the expelling of fluids much; grinning at himself in the mirror each time puke was washed off his face in the bathroom. In fact, the clinic staff said he seems to be the cheeriest patient they have seen. Little sicko!

The Merlion (鱼尾狮) is a statue with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Its name comes from a portmanteau of mermaid and lion. The Merlion was designed by Fraser Brunner for the Singapore Tourism Board in 1964 and was used as its logo up to 1997. The Merlion continues to be its trademark symbol. The original Merlion statue stands at the opening of the Singapore River while a taller replica can be found on Sentosa Island.

According to the STB's publicity campaign, the lion head and fish body of the creature recalls the story of the legendary Sang Nila Utama, who saw a lion while hunting on an island, en route to Malacca. The island eventually became the sea port of Temasek, a precursor to Singapore.
