Singapore School Experience

Johno was pretty excited to explore the school on his first day. Looking geeky in his $30.65 school uniform, he was one of the 1st to arrive that morning. Running freely in the empty school, he seemed settled and so at home.

I left while he was having breakfast; he cried while I walked away, but I was told that quickly stopped and he had fun the rest of the day.

Unfortunately, there ends the beautiful part. When I went to pick him up later that day, I could smell his stinky diaper before he even laid a hug on me. I wonder how long that had been left on him. I changed him and took him home.

Back home where I lay him down and had a better look, I found horrible sores between his legs and in the groin area. It was the most serious case of diaper rash I've ever seen on him. Slapped on loads of diaper cream on his sores and wrote down clear instructions for his teacher to change him more often, clean him more thoroughly during changes and to use the cream on him.

After the 2nd day at school, the condition didn't heal that well, I hence decided to keep him home the rest of the week to see to his recovery. Brought him to the doctor's and was told his condition was a fungal infection due to soggy diapers left on too long and poor cleansing of the area.

Happened to speak to the parent of one of Johno's classmates who started school the same time as he. Found out that he too had diaper rash after the first couple of days. The parent even found her child sent to sleep in a stinky diaper when she visited him during their nap time!

Johno's rash is all better now and I'll probably send him back to school on Monday, but definitely not without making sure the school hears our concerns loud and clear.
