We'll Miss You, Pepper...

------------------------
I got a call this morning from my family vacationing in Bali. "Why are they calling me while on vacation? Something must be wrong," I thought. My bro muttered they had bad news, and passed the phone to Mum. The moment I heard Mum's shaky voice, fear gripped me. I was praying it wasn't something about Daddy. The relief was that Daddy was fine physically, but the upsetting news was that he was devastated. Pepper died.

The family was attending a wedding in Bali this weekend, so decided to send Pepper for boarding at Pets R Us. They even opted for the more premium package which was to board him at the owner's house where he could get more attention and better care, instead of being caged up at the shop. First, Pets R Us called to say Pepper didn't seem to be eating or drinking. Then, they called with news he was dead. Cause of death is still undetermined; will have to wait for the autopsy results.

Daddy is crushed - Don't beat yourself up over this, Daddy. You always give Pepper the best of everything. The only thing you are ever guilty of is loving him so dearly and taking such great care of him.

John is enraged - Don't go beating up the pet shop guys, sweetie! We either do it the civilised way and sue their pants off for negligence, or we can just accept that Pepper has had his glorious 6 years and has now retired, but will always be loved and remembered...

Mei2 Thank you for writing such a beautiful eulogy on Pepper. I just hope people who read this would think twice before sending their love pets for boarding.
I just don't buy the early reply from Pets R Us that Pepper's death was due to depression! I just can't believed how can a happy and lifely dog just drop dead in a short span of three days. Anyway I'll wait for the autopsy report.

Me neither. At this point in time, it seems that the most probably reasons are either negligence or abuse. Hope the vet who's doing the autopsy is impartial and writes an accurate report.

I am so sorry to hear about Pepper!I was never an advocater of Pets boarding and have always thought that they are pretty sly in portraying a pretty front. I am even paranoid and suspicious of sending my dog to grooming place because my neighbour's dog came home from grooming poisoned with white froth, apparantly they gave a too high dosage of tranquilizer to make the dog quiet.
I hope that the results will be out soon and would be a fair judgment. Keep us posted.
