At last we get the chance to go on our first beach outing and picnic!
With everything we had to do settling into our new place, and no thanks to John's undesirable work schedule as well, we finally have our first weekend just for fun and chilling out. Packed our picnic and headed out to the North Shore to watch the big waves.
We are beginning to appreciate more and more how many a times, the journey can be more enjoyable than the destination itself. Taking the nice drive up to the North brings us so close to what we city dwellers hardly remember exist: mountains, agriculture, horses, wild chickens, mills, and undisrupted conversations.
It's amazing how John and I can learn much more about each other on these drives. As he is awed by the presence of mighty mountains, he turns and realizes that every mountain and landscape was the same to me - a lovely mount of rocks. And as I squeal in delight and excitement at horses grazing in a ranch, I have to live with the whole "City Chick" teasing from John, and his cheeky grin and raised eyebrow.
The journey's fun, but the destination is great too. Huge waves crashing into us, seabreeze stroking our faces, birds sharing our picnic; we could do this every week. But I guess we could do away with another ordeal of almost getting our car completely stuck in a sand patch on our way home!
